Lucky resident scoops 2k Middlesbrough Lottery win

20 April 2022

A lucky resident is celebrating a £2,000 win on the Middlesbrough Lottery, the biggest prize the community draw has handed out since launching last autumn.

In total, more than £5,300 has been won and almost £23,000 has been raised for good causes based in Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough local Ann Parry won the prize, and chose to support Bloodrun EVS – a charity which uses motorbikes to provide a free blood courier service to North East NHS hospitals – with her ticket.

Ann, from Ormesby, said: “I’m ecstatic that I’ve won.

“I think Bloodrun is a worthy cause and it’s a really good way of transporting blood.

“I live here in Middlesbrough, and I think it’s important for people to support the area they live in.

“That’s why I bought a Middlesbrough Lottery ticket.”

The Middlesbrough Lottery is an online sustainable fundraising solution for local community groups and good causes provided by Middlesbrough Council.

It’s designed to help local not-for-profits to diversify their fundraising streams and enable year-round fundraising in a safe, fun and effective way.

There are more than 50 registered causes signed up to the lottery and players can choose one to support when buying a ticket.

The chosen cause receives 50% of the £1 ticket with an additional 10% going to further support the council’s cultural services, with the rest going towards the management and marketing of the lottery.

There are weekly cash prizes to be won up to the value of the £25,000 jackpot, and the odds of winning a prize are stacked at 50:1.

Ken Bayne from Bloodrun EVS said: “We are delighted that Ann chose to support Bloodrun EVS and that she has had this fantastic win.

“The funds raised by the lottery is supporting the charity by helping our fleet running costs, which have increased since moving from an out of hours service to operating to assist our local NHS Trusts, free of charge, 24 hours every day of the year.

“Bloodrun EVS is manned entirely by unpaid volunteers and relies on the public and local businesses for funding.

“The community support we receive is very necessary and very much appreciated.”

Deputy Mayor of Middlesbrough Councillor Mieka Smiles congratulated the winners.

Cllr Smiles said: “It’s great to see such a big win for a Middlesbrough resident, congratulations Ann.

“Good causes from all over our town have benefited local residents like Ann playing the Middlesbrough Lottery.

“There are over 50 good causes signed up so far, and there’s always room for more to join.

“So if you know of, or work for, a local charity, sports club or community centre, sign up your cause to the Middlesbrough Lottery today for free.”
