‘Generous’ lotto players are making a difference to domestic abuse charity
22 February 2022
Every cause signed up to Middlesbrough Lottery is gaining vital funding for incredible projects, and for the staff at My Sister’s Place, the generosity of local people has been outstanding.
Lottery players have been donating to the domestic abuse charity in their droves making it one of the highest beneficiaries so far, and the charity is grateful for the vital funds.
“Money that comes in through the lottery is absolute gold to any charity”, said Lesley Storey, CEO of My Sister’s Place.
“We could not operate and we would not exist if it wasn’t for things like the Middlesbrough Lottery.”
Established in 2002, the charity is an independent specialist ‘One-stop Shop’ for women who have been experiencing domestic violence.
Lesley added: “Middlesbrough sadly has some of the highest levels of domestic abuse in the country.
“My Sister’s Place is crucial to ensuring victims get the support that they need. We work closely with GPs and give people training, so that they can recognise people at risk earlier, and get them the help they need.”
Despite the need for the service, Lesley, who isn’t from Middlesbrough originally, has been very impressed by the people of our town.
“I absolutely love working in Middlesbrough. The people are really generous, it makes us really proud of the town.
“Middlesbrough is not a very rich area, but that doesn’t stop its residents from being kind and generous with what they do have.”
Thanks to Middlesbrough Lottery players choosing to donate to My Sister’s Place, the service can stay open all-year round, with donations being spent on day-to-day costs such as rents, lighting and heating.
When players buy a Middlesbrough Lottery ticket, they can choose which local good cause 50% of their ticket price goes to.
If you know of a local good cause, charity or sports club, recommend that they sign up to the Middlesbrough Lottery today through our website.
