Foodbank the latest good cause to sign up for Middlesbrough Lottery
03 February 2022
A foodbank is the latest in a long line of good causes to sign up to a local lottery.
Middlesbrough Foodbank has signed up to the Middlesbrough Lottery - a weekly lottery which supports good causes, charities, community groups and sports groups based in the town.
Almost 50 causes, charities, community groups and sports clubs based in Middlesbrough have now signed up to the Middlesbrough Lottery, which is due to celebrate its six-month anniversary in early March.
Tracey Godfrey, Project Manager at the Middlesbrough Foodbank, said: "We are excited to have signed up to the Middlesbrough Lottery.
"With the support of those who play the lottery, we will be able to buy food for the Foodbank that we often run out of.
"The extra funding that will hopefully come to us through the Middlesbrough Lottery will mean that there will always be food available for those who desperately need it, and we will be able to welcome the people that use our foodbank in with a cup of tea or coffee.
"The foodbank benefits people from across Middlesbrough.
"No-one should ever have to go hungry, and donating through the Middlesbrough Lottery is a way for us all to come together as a community and support our local area."
Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor Councillor Mieka Smiles said: "We're delighted that Middlesbrough Foodbank has signed up to the Middlesbrough Lottery.
"The Middlesbrough Lottery is a fantastic opportunity for local community groups, good causes and charities to benefit from a free and easy funding stream.
"It also gives the people of Middlesbrough a chance to win up to £25,000 every single week, whilst supporting their local community in the process.
"We're encouraging more local good causes to get involved.
"If you work for a charity, community group, sports club or good cause based in Middlesbrough all you have to do is visit the Middlesbrough Lottery website, sign up and promote it to your supporters."
Tickets for the Middlesbrough Lottery cost just £1 and 60% of every ticket sold goes to supporting the local community.
Ticket buyers can choose which cause to support when buying their ticket to the draw, with 50p from each ticket sale going straight to their chosen cause, and 10p supporting Middlesbrough Council-run cultural initiatives like Orange Pip Market.
The Middlesbrough Lottery is externally managed by Gatherwell, who run more than 80 community lotteries for local authorities across the UK.
