Community Centre throws Jubilee party with lotto funds

10 June 2022

One of the Middlesbrough Lottery’s most popular causes decided to use its newfound funds to give back to the local community – in the form of a huge community celebration over the Jubilee weekend.

Marton Community Centre threw a party fit for a queen over the long bank holiday weekend, which featured a quintessentially British afternoon tea, along with a whole host of entertainment including bouncy castles and a raffle.

In total, over 200 people attended the celebration.

Sylvia Ross from Marton Community Centre said: “People really enjoyed the party and we’ve had some fantastic messages of thanks!

“We started planning it all in January. Back then we thought only a few people would turn up, but thanks to just a handful of dedicated volunteers and some funding from the Middlesbrough Lottery it’s turned out to be a big success.

“This has been a brilliant opportunity for people in the local area to come together and we’re so glad we’ve been able to bring goodwill and joy after a tough few years.”

Marton Community Centre joined the Middlesbrough Lottery last July, and since then it has become one of the most supported causes, raising over £1,350, enabling it to offer a wide range of activities and social groups to the local community.

Sylvia hopes that other community centres will also sign up to the Middlesbrough Lottery.

She said: “Lottery funding is absolutely crucial to our community centre and signing up should be the prime motivation for all centres that need some extra funding.

“It’s been an absolute win-win for us! Even if you think you’re not eligible, be sure to check it out and see if you can start your fundraising journey.”
